2025 Subaru Legacy – All-Wheel Drive Sedan with Turbo Performance!

The 2025 Subaru Legacy may be related to the rugged Subaru Outback, but it follows a very different path. While the Outback leans into an outdoorsy image with its lifted ride height and rugged exterior features, the Legacy is a more traditional sedan focused on comfort, technology, and daily practicality. Beneath the surface, both models share the same engineering platform, including Subaru’s well-known symmetrical all-wheel drive system and horizontally opposed four-cylinder engines. These engines include a 182-horsepower 2.5-liter unit and a more powerful turbocharged 2.4-liter version producing 260 horsepower. Paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission, the Legacy delivers confident handling and a smooth driving experience, although it lacks the sporty edge offered by some competitors.

Pricing for the 2025 Subaru Legacy starts at twenty-seven thousand nine hundred eighty United States dollars and reaches up to forty-one thousand two hundred eighty dollars depending on the selected trim and options. The Sport trim stands out as the best value in the lineup. It includes the more powerful turbocharged engine and features such as 18-inch wheels, a power sunroof, LED fog lights, a rear spoiler, blind-spot monitoring, keyless entry with push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, rear automated emergency braking, and cloth upholstery with red contrast stitching.

Performance varies significantly depending on the engine. The base engine is adequate for daily commuting, but the turbocharged version brings the Legacy to life. In testing, the turbocharged Touring XT trim accelerated from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 6.1 seconds. Even better, when the Sport trim is equipped with the same turbo engine, it reached the same speed in only 5.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the non-turbo version took a more leisurely 8.0 seconds.

In terms of fuel economy, the base engine offers better ratings with an estimated 27 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. The turbocharged models are slightly less efficient, achieving 24 miles per gallon city and 32 miles per gallon highway. In real-world highway testing at 75 miles per hour, the non-turbo model delivered 34 miles per gallon, while the turbocharged model returned 31 miles per gallon. However, both fall short of top rivals like the Toyota Camry SE, which reached 45 miles per gallon.

Inside, the 2025 Legacy feels roomy and well-built, with generous rear-seat space and quality materials. Higher trims include leather upholstery and useful features like a manual thigh support extender for the driver. The trunk space is also practical, managing to fit eight carry-on suitcases in testing, one more than the Honda Accord.

Technology is another strong point. Base models include dual seven-inch infotainment screens, while most trims come with a large vertically oriented 11.6-inch display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Navigation is included on upper trims and optional on mid-level models. Audio options start with a four-speaker system and go up to a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon setup on higher trims.

Sadly, 2025 marks the final year for the Subaru Legacy. Despite its strong blend of safety, comfort, and all-wheel drive capability, Subaru is retiring this long-running sedan. It is a refined, practical car that deserves a proper farewell.
