The rush of new-car brands and models launching in Australia shows little sign of slowing down.
Last year saw the number of marques in the market grow significantly, mostly thanks to China and the likes of Geely, Foton, Jaecoo, and GAC, but new metal from existing brands, such as the BYD Shark 6 and Toyota HiLux, also made waves.
If you’re struggling to keep up, we have bad and good news: there are more brands and models coming in 2026, but this story should help you keep up to date with them all.
New players in 2026 – as of January 1 – range from Denza to Lepas, while recent entrants will double down with the likes of the BYD Sealion 8, XPeng G9L, Leapmotor B10, and Chery’s first dual-cab ute.
The big news in family SUVs is likely to be the new-generation versions of the best-selling Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5, while ute fans can look forward to a new Nissan Navara, Volkswagen Amarok Walkinshaw, and KGM Musso.
In the electric-car world, there will be an updated XPeng G6, new Mazda 6e, and Mitsubishi’s first EV in more than a decade, while performance-car fans can look forward to fresh metal from Porsche and Ferrari.
