Alongside the S- and E‑Class, it is one of the longest-produced passenger car model series in the history of Mercedes‑Benz.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most iconic nameplates in motoring history. In a new milestone, the carmaker has rolled off the 600,000th unit of the G-Class off the production line in Graz, Austria.
The 600,000th vehicle is a G580 with EQ Technology, finished in Obsidian Black Metallic.
Alongside the S- and E‑Class, it is one of the longest-produced passenger car model series in the history of Mercedes‑Benz. The G-Class was first launched in 1979 with four engine options. Additionally, both convertibles with a short wheelbase and station wagons with a short or long wheelbase were available.
There have been numerous special and limited-edition G-Class models over the past four decades. A G‑Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s was launched last year as a tribute to the first G‑Class series W 460.
Mercedes says that the degree of individualization is higher in the G-Class than in any other model in the three-pointed star portfolio. Mercedes introduced MANUFAKTUR for the G-Class in 2019. Over 90 percent of G‑Class customers now choose at least one MANUFAKTUR option; on average, it’s three per vehicle. Since 2024, it has been possible to choose from up to 20,000 paint colours.
In India, Mercedes-Benz offers the AMG G63 and the all-electric G580 with EQ Technology.
