Carlex Design established itself as one of the leading companies that offers luxurious and breathtaking interior enhancements for premium automobiles. Lately, this Polish company has been daring itself for attention and showing itself into the light with its concept renderings of a wholly outlandish six-wheeled Mercedes-Benz G-Class called the “Habemus.” It has attracted quite a bit of attention for this car and left people wondering about its intended use. Was it designed for the Jesuit general, although they have not yet ordered it to replace the current pontifical car? Now let us discuss this idea in some detail.

A Blend of Luxury and Extravagance

Carlex Design is widely recognized for giving an ordinary, luxurious car a whole new attitude. Originating primarily for interior refurbishment, the company has successively expanded its sight with more challenging projects. The Habemus is perhaps one of their bolder propositions yet, which combines the tenacity of the Mercedes-Benz G Class with the lavishness of luxury.

Design and Aesthetics

The idea is presented in a set of drawings and embodies a combination of classic and high-tech accents. The front half of the car is quite conventional G-Class, but there are differences. This was achieved by adding custom grilles, custom bumpers, and a dramatic gold finish—a feature noticeable on its predecessors.

In this area, starting from B-pillar, design takes a completely new dimension. The large section on the rear part of the vehicle incorporates a large spin char located at the center of the specially designed bed. This layout resembles the one used in the all-electric G-Class Popemobile presented to the Pope in December 2024 but with a wider body due to the extra axle. On both sides and in front of the central seat are four semi-circular seats of lesser diameters, thus bearing a sociable but close touch.

This is not unlike the outside, and the interior of the car is very luxurious, with white leather being used on almost all interior surfaces, with a red carpet running through the back. More so, the golden trims used throughout are essentially Carlex Design, and in this G-Wagen, the vehicle’s distinctive design is easily recognizable.

Ambitious Engineering

As much as the look and feel of the Habemus are breathtaking, it is even more interesting to look at the engineering behind the product. This is a concept that Carlex has not yet indicated the particular model they intend to use as a base model for this car design. Other options are to start with a G63 6×6, which is already of the top tier, or to adapt an ordinary G-Class car into a six-wheel one. Considering the car structure and previous works of Carlex, the latter is more likely.

Technical Considerations

There are a lot of challenges that come with turning a normal G-Class into this kind of contraption that you are seeing here. The extra axle effectively must come with a longer wheelbase and the need to affect the car’s suspensions, drives, and distribution of weights. These modifications are needed to ensure that the car still retains the off-road handling as a famous trademark of the vehicle despite weight and dimension changes.

The Popemobile Comparison

In December 2024, Mercedes-Benz handed over a new all-electric G 580 car model to him, a move that was aimed at promoting sustainability and technological advancement. The Habemus, though, stays more traditional and aims at being a luxurious abode. Although it has similarities to Popemobile in terms of the general design, mainly in terms of the layout of the rear cabin, it does not seem to have as much purpose as a mode of transportation and is probably more in the category of a spectacle.

Purpose and Practicality

Considering the fact that the latest Mercedes-Benz model, the G 580 EQ, has been delivered to the Vatican recently, it will not be a feasible option for the popes and the church to opt for the Habemus as their official vehicle. But as the ceremonial or parade car, the potential is not totally out of the question. Due to its big and opulent appearance, it is ideal for occasions where aesthetic appeal is an important factor to be considered.

Cost and Realization

Currently, there is no information regarding the premium price of this luxurious car from Carlex Design. This is likely going to attract a high cost since it has been established to be a custom project. Moreover, until now, there are no clear indications of the company preparing for the Habemus to fully become a creation. Fans and those who are interested in acquiring it will be waiting on the option with bated breath as to the latest on it.

Personal Opinion

The Habemus has without doubt been designed and manufactured to the highest standard. This pushes the limitations of luxury SUVs and turns the new G-Class into a nod to both the old and the new. However, its practicality is questionable. It makes it ideal for its intended purpose of a ceremonial car but may be too lavish should one need it as a daily driver or even the only car.

The tuner Carlex Design is always eager to go one step further and shows that it can build an outstanding vehicle that is a symbol of car engineering and luxury. Regardless of whether the Habemus transforms into a real car or remains an idea on the drawing board or in the virtual world, the car is now a part of car history.

End Note

The Mercedes G-Wagen from Carlex Design as a 6×6 model is living proof of the creativity and desire to make only better vehicles. Currently, it is difficult to tell whether it will continue to serve as the Pope’s car, but the influence it has had in the automobile industry cannot be dismissed. As we wait for the next news, it is known that Carlex Design’s next step has become an example of how the redefinition of the concept of luxury and breakthroughs in automobile manufacturing and design is becoming an ongoing process.
