He wasn’t even close to passing that field sobriety test.
Sometimes, bad decisions travel solo. But other times, like this instance in Miami, dangerously stupid decisions travel in packs. A 35-year-old Florida man drunkenly crashed into a state trooper’s police car. His attempts to pass a subsequent sobriety test are nothing short of comedy. That is, before the news that he had three kids in the car.
A Florida man crashed into a state trooper and hopelessly failed his sobriety test. To make things worse, there were kids in the car
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was parked on the side of a state road near Miami when disaster struck. Though she was already investigating a crash, a motorist hit her patrol car. Fortunately, no one at the scene suffered injury. Unfortunately, the Florida man behind the wheel of the wayward vehicle was reportedly drunk at the time.
Police then evaluated Cesar Pena Romero, a 35-year-old Floridian, for driving under the influence. According to the FHP, Romero and his passenger were incoherent, smelled of alcohol, and dropped a beer bottle onto the ground when they exited the vehicle.
When police officers suspect a motorist of a DUI, they typically administer a standard field sobriety test or an alcohol breath test with a device like a breathalyzer. Romero followed the troopers’ instructions and participated in the field sobriety test.
NBC News video shows the test, complete with Romero’s failures to maintain balance and coordination, leading to his eventual arrest. The dashcam video captured Romero as he stumbled during the walk and turn phase of the test. It also showed the Florida man failing to balance on one leg, nearly falling over at one point.
Worse yet, Romero had three children in the car: two nine-month-old twins and a 13-year-old girl. Needless to say, the Miami-area judge didn’t take lightly to Romero’s negligence. In addition to the DUI, Romero is facing charges for child abuse and property damage.
