All-New 2026 Subaru Ascent – New Look, More Tech, and Possible Hybrid Power!

The 2026 Subaru Ascent is expected to arrive with a fresh redesign, bringing updated styling, new technology, and possibly a hybrid powertrain. As Subaru’s largest vehicle, the Ascent competes with other three-row sport utility vehicles like the Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot, and Nissan Pathfinder. Subaru is aiming to strengthen the Ascent’s reputation as a practical, family-focused vehicle while enhancing its appeal with modern features and improved efficiency.

From what we expect, the new Ascent will maintain the strengths of the previous model. The interior should remain highly functional, with possible improvements in cabin space, especially for those seated in the third row. Subaru is known for its build quality, and that should continue in the 2026 model. While the styling will be updated, we believe the overall design will still focus on comfort and practicality rather than aggressive performance.

Under the hood, the standard gas-powered model will likely carry over the 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This powertrain previously produced 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. It is expected to be paired with a continuously variable transmission and standard all-wheel drive. In past testing, this setup helped the Ascent accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in 6.9 seconds.

Subaru may also introduce a hybrid version of the Ascent, but it could arrive later, possibly in the 2027 model year. The company already offers hybrid versions of the Forester and Crosstrek, but the Ascent would require a more powerful system. A partnership with Toyota might make this possible. Toyota’s three-row hybrids, like the Highlander and Grand Highlander, use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with electric motors, producing up to 245 horsepower. Subaru could modify this system to deliver even more power, potentially surpassing the current gas engine.

Fuel efficiency is expected to improve significantly with the hybrid version. While the gas Ascent currently offers around 19 to 26 miles per gallon in city and highway driving, the hybrid version could reach up to 31 to 32 miles per gallon. As always with Subaru, all-wheel drive will come standard, providing solid grip in various road conditions.

Inside the cabin, the current tablet-style 11.6-inch touchscreen might return, but Subaru may also consider upgrading to a 12.3-inch display, similar to the one used in the Solterra electric vehicle. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will likely remain standard, and higher trims could feature a premium audio system from Harman Kardon.

In terms of safety, every 2026 Ascent will come equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight system. This suite of driver assistance features includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, and emergency steering. Optional features may include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Emergency Stop Assist.

Pricing for the 2026 Subaru Ascent is expected to start around 42,000 dollars for the base gas model. Higher trims may reach up to 54,000 dollars. If a hybrid version is introduced, it could begin around 50,000 dollars, while a possible all-electric model might start at approximately 55,000 dollars. The official launch is expected in late 2025, with production models hitting dealerships shortly after.
