Almost four years after first unveiling the GR GT3 concept, Toyota is ready to reveal its first-ever production supercar: The GR GT.

2026 Toyota GR GT

Toyota has dropped a teaser video for that’s set to become its first production supercar, and revealed the official name for it.

The Toyota GR GT will become the flagship model for Toyota’s Gazoo Racing performance arm.

In the new video, Toyota demonstrates its performance car heritage with the Toyota 2000GT and Lexus LFA leading a track session before giving way to the reveal of the GR GT.

The video finishes with the tagline ‘the soul lives on’ and confirms the official reveal date of December 5, 2025, for the northern hemisphere.

Full and final details of the new car are set to be published then, with the car set to take centre stage at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon in January, which is where the concept version debuted in 2022.

The GR GT is set to follow the 2000GT and LFA in offering a front engine, or technically a front mid-engine, driving the rear wheels.

Unlike its predecessors, the GR GT is set to ditch natural aspiration, with a twin-turbo V8 engine widely tipped to power the new model, assisted by a high-performance hybrid system.

Toyota has run a long lead of previews and motorsport appearances for the new halo car, which is set to be offered in both FIA-approved GT3 guise and road-registerable GR GT versions.

Like the GR Yaris, Toyota’s development of the GR GT was led by the motorsports version, according to the company, rather than based on the development of a mainstream model, as is the case with the GR Corolla.

The car shown in the promotional clip also eschews the towing rear wing of the GT3 concept, pointing to a tamer aero package for the production model.

Despite a wide array of public appearances, Toyota has kept engine, power, performance, transmission, and construction details under wraps.

The full suite of technical information is expected for the car’s official reveal.
