Let’s be honest: Dream cars come from posters and Saturday morning TV, not practicality. So when we posed the question on MotorBiscuit’s Facebook page asking which ride everyone dreamed about owning as kids (bonus points if they’d never buy it today), the answers hit every corner of automotive imagination. Here are the standouts.
Drivers Answer Which Car They Dreamed About Owning As Kids
Cars from the Big Screen
One commenter went straight for nostalgia: “That space car in The Jetsons.”
Another grew up eyeing TV and movie legends and listed “The bat mobile, Herby, General Lee, Burt Reynolds Chicken TansAm, Kit.”
These aren’t cars you park outside Costco. They’re what you watch outrun physics.
Muscle memories
Several responses returned to classic Detroit iron.
One wrote, “A working one!!! Didn’t have a bad run though, got to own 67 Chevies in 3 flavors, a 71 351 Boss, a 69 428 CJ Fairlane and many others of mixed breeds.”
Another added, “Camaro. I got better.”
Other replied, “Ford Mustang,” “32 ford roadster,” and simply, “69 Trans Am convertible / Still my dream car.”
Someone didn’t overthink it. “I guess for that little boy it was a Chevy.”
Imports and performance legends
Wistfulness traveled overseas in more than a few replies.
“Toyota Supra MK2. I was young when my father’s friend took me for a spin.”
One wrote, “Originially F40 but now GT-R R35.”
From Europe came, “Always wanted a Countach,” and “66 AC Shelby… dont own one now / 88 Lamborghini Countach Quattrovolve Bi-Turbo… dont own one now / Rolls Royce Silver Shadow… I have a FORD and love it.”
One dove into enthusiast territory: “Lancia Delta HF Integrale, BMW M3 E30.”
Another answered, “Lotus Esprit Turbo, the L4 with the cryo intercooler… had the opportunity to buy one 20 years ago… Wouldn’t buy one today.”
Workhorse daydreams
Plenty chose trucks.
“69 f250 ranger and first gen Dodge Cummins and I own both now.” Another remembered, “When I was 15 I kept telling everyone I was going to get a tow truck as my first vehicle so I could take whatever car I wanted.”
One kept it light: “85 k10 gmc sierra short bed.”
Still chasing it
Some remain loyal. “A 1996 Viper GTS in blue with white stripes. It’s still a dream car even though I’m into JDM cars.”
Sure, Responsible Adults often settle for “what makes sense,” but that doesn’t mean they never had a fantasy car based on a film-centered fever dream.
