As 2025 enters its final month, the new vehicle sales race continues to heat up, especially in the midsize SUV and crossover arena. Despite an all-new generation model being due for the U.S. market in the coming months, the 2025 Toyota RAV4 remains a serious contender among its peers and when compared to the rest of the Japanese brand’s line-up.

The RAV4 remains a highly competitive product, because of how well it balances versatility, affordability, reliability, and mass market appeal. It may not be the brand’s most thrilling model, but it is a name that people have come to trust, which is exactly why it is such a strong performer in the U.S., vastly outperforming the likes of the 4Runner and Tacoma models.

As of November 2025, Toyota confirms that it was able to sell 39,463 individual RAV4 copies in a single month, resulting in its tally for the year so far coming in at 437,260 copies. This includes the RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid’s numbers, which stand at 12,830 and 1,952 examples, respectively. By comparison, Toyota was able to sell 10,241 copies of the 4Runner, bringing its year-to-date result up to 87,673 copies. The Tacoma’s sales come in at 22,439 copies for the month, resulting in a 249,563-individual unit sales figure for 2025 so far. Combined, Toyota sold 32,680 examples of the 4Runner and Tacoma; nearly 6,800 copies less than the RAV4, or about 20-percent less than the RAV4’s sales.

If we break down the hybrids, Toyota confirms that it sold 13,191 RAV4 Hybrids and 1,127 RAV4 Plug-In Hybrids, bringing their year-to-date total up to 167,668 and 19,001 copies, respectively. Interestingly, the RAV4 moniker enjoys a year-to-date sales increase of 2.2 percent, but the HEV sales have decreased by 10.1 percent and 33.9 percent, respectively. Toyota sold 2,465 4Runner Hybrids in November, bringing its YTD sales figure up to 18,612. The Japanese brand also confirms 2,389 copies of the Tacoma Hybrid in November, resulting in a 27,739-unit sales YTD figure.

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid features the brand’s naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine, which generates 176 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque without any electrical assistance, with a dual-motor setup for the all-wheel-drive system.

Toyota doesn’t disclose combined torque figures for most of its hybridized products, but confirms that the system generates a combined 219 horsepower output. The ICE produces 176 horsepower, while the front electric motor generates 118 horsepower and 149 pound-feet. The rear motor produces 54 horsepower and 89 pound-feet of torque. The result is a fairly respectable 7.3-second 0-60 MPH time and 117 MPH top speed. This model tows up to 1,750 pounds.

The ICE RAV4 features the same powertrain, sans the electric motors, resulting in it employing a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s also available with a front-wheel-drive system. The system produces 203 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 184 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 RPM. Selecting the two-wheel-drive model gets you from 0 to 60 MPH in 8.4 seconds, which comes down to 8.2 seconds if you select the all-wheel-drive system. Both drivetrains are limited to a 115 MPH top speed and 1,500-pound towing capacity.

The PHEV SUV also features a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine. Collectively, Toyota limits the RAV4 PHEV’s output to 302 horsepower and 288 pound-feet, delivered to all wheels via its direct-drive single-speed eCVT. The brand claims this drivetrain gets it from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.8 seconds and tows 2,500 pounds.

The RAV4 Hybrid’s class-leading fuel consumption is another reason why consumers value it so highly, resulting in its impressive long-term value retention. According to the EPA, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will cost you $46 to refuel the 14.5-gallon tank. It also estimates that you’ll spend up to $1,200 on fuel every year and that you’ll get to save up to $2,250 on gasoline every five years. It will cost approximately $2.03 to drive over 25 miles. Opting for the Woodland Edition increases your annual fuel cost by $100 and decreases your five-year savings by $500. On average, this model will cost you $2.14 to drive 25 miles.

Where efficiency is concerned, the EPA estimates that the standard Hybrid will return a 41/38/39 MPG fuel consumption on the city/highway/combined cycle and return a 566-mile range on a full tank of gasoline. The Woodland returns a 38/35/37 MPG result with a slightly less preferable 536-mile range due to its larger wheels and multi-terrain tires.

Cost To Fill The Tank (14.5 Gallons) $46 $46 $46 $46 $46 $46 $44

The base front-wheel-drive RAV4 is the most efficient ICE model, returning a 27/34/30 MPG consumption estimate and a 435-mile range figure. This model saves you up to $500 in fuel costs over five years and will cost you $1,600 to refuel every year. You can also expect to spend $2.64 to drive 25 miles and $46 to fill up the tank. Interestingly, the LE with all-wheel drive doesn’t become any heavier on fuel.

If you select the RAV4 all-wheel-drive without a stop-start ignition system, you can expect an estimated 25/33/28 MPG consumption average and a 406-mile range claim. The EPA also estimates that this won’t save you anything on fuel over five years and will cost $1,700 to keep refueled every year. This model will cost $2.83 to drive 25 miles.

The RAV4 PHEV covers 42 miles, while the ICE drives it for 600 miles in between refueling. You shouldn’t be surprised to learn that it’s also one of the most efficient SUVs in its segment, boasting a 94 MPGe or 36 kWh per 100 miles combined energy consumption estimate. The ICE system returns a 38 MPG consumption estimate on the same cycle.

These Are The First 10 Production Cars In History With Factory Turbochargers

We may love a good turbo today, but they had to start somewhere – here are the first 10 production cars to boast a turbocharged engine under the hood.

The Tacoma Is A Capable Compact Truck

2026 Toyota Tacoma-11

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma‘s pricing starts at $32,145, and is available with the brand’s turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, with power outputs ranging from 228 horsepower to 278 horsepower and 243 to 317 pound-feet of torque. This system includes an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drivetrains. Toyota doesn’t disclose performance claims, so there are no official 0 to 60 MPH acceleration figures, but we do know it limits top speed to 113 MPH.

Opting for the hybrid i-Force Max model integrates an electric motor next to the eight-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a combined 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet output. This derivative is capable of achieving a 7.6-second 0 to 60 MPH acceleration time. Towing capacities range from 3,500 pounds to 6,000 pounds, depending on your desired specification.

The 4Runner’s Equally Impressive Drivetrain

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner starts at $51,570 MSRP, which includes a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and single permanent-magnet motor, producing a combined 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet, but if you opt for the Trailhunter, the former figure declines to 323 horsepower.

The EPA estimates the 4Runner consumes 23/24/23 MPG on the city/highway/combined cycle, while covering 437 miles on a single tank. The two-wheel drive model returns 20/26/22 MPG and covers 418 miles.
