BHPian HondaSport recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Folks, recently took a trip up into HP. While I have been to Kullu and Manali multiple times, this was my 1st trip with the Jeep Compass (JC) The Jeep Compass is a superb vehicle, rock solid either on the expressway cruising at triple digit speeds or on a winding mountain road at 10,000 feet. I covered over 1500 kms over the route from Guragon – Chandigarh – Mandi – Kullu – Manali – Sissu (Lahaul Spiti), Rohtang Pass – Kasol and back.Trip 1: Gurgaon to Mandi – 450kms +Leaving from Gurgaon! Ran into the grand daddy of Jeeps! Entering the hills!Trip 2: Mandi to Kullu – 70 kms +All set on our way! Not this time but one day for sure I will be road trippin to Leh! Loved this home stay near Kullu run by a retired army brigadier! Here on the pics will get more breathtaking, will keep them coming.Trip 3: Kullu to Sissu (Lahaul Spiti) – 125 kmsDrove up from Kullu through Manali and onwards to Atal tunnel. Roads entering and exiting Manali are in a bad state due to the monsoon rains, many sections are washed away and navigating these broken roads is to be done carefully especially with the not so great GC of the Compass. Just over 10 kms from Manali, crossing Solang Valley famous for paragliding! Atal Tunnel entry which is about 25 kms from Manali. At 9 kms long and at over 10,000 feet it helps bypass Rohtang Pass and enables easier access to Lahaul Spiti Exiting Atal Tunnel and you are greeted with change of landscape – From heavy forest cover adorned with tall Deodar cedar (Himalayan Cedar) trees before the tunnel entry to a rugged mountain landscape with shrubs and small trees but also an enticing choice. Which way to go? The beauty of Lahaul Spiti is unmatched! 7 kms on from Atal Tunnel exit and on the road heading to Leh is the small hamlet of Sissu. Made a pit stop at Cafe Sissu! Excellent food and the barista brewed an excellent Americano! Turned back from Sissu towards Kullu but not before getting a click with the JC in the crisp mountain air.
