BHPian neil.jericho recently shared this with other enthusiasts: I had last ridden to the hill station of Yelagiri around a year and a half ago, and the truth is that this is yet another lovely destination that I should be visiting more frequently than I actually do. Last time, TBHPian Roomy and I had taken the really long way round, by opting to go via Mulbagal and Vaniyambadi to get to Yelagiri, before returning via the de facto Krishnagiri route. Google Maps did warn me that there was a fair bit of holiday traffic on the climb up to the hill station, but some seasoned patience and the excellent flickability of the GSXRRRR 250 helped me easily work my way through the countless cars and two-wheelers. The sweeping S bends and sharp hairpin bends did occassionally give me the opportunity to push the motorcycle and really test the cornering abilities of the new Reise TraceRad tires. Colour me genuinely impressed! The road leading to Yelagiri Adorable pups Nice emerald tinge to the Yelagiri lake Unfortunately, the endless swarms of vehicles at Yelagiri did put a swift and conclusive end to my plans of having lunch there after spending some time at the popular lake. On the ride back down, I pulled over at the usual viewpoint where there were scores of other tourists who were enjoying the resplendent vista. I was glad to note that, unlike my last visit to Yelagiri, there were no monkeys in the vicinity of this popular stop. A nondescript bakery located diagonally opposite the arch at Chinnamottur provided surprisingly tasty snacks that served to quell my hunger, albeit temporarily. Instead of returning through the exact same route, I went down to the Chinnamottur Road, which eventually led me back to the main highway. From there, it was the usual suns out, guns out return ride to Bangalore. At the customary stop on the way down The views you are blessed with when you don’t always take the shortest route home While I would have wished for slightly less traffic on the way up to Yelagiri, this was a really fun 313-kilometer ride that involved just the right mix of 6-lane highways, charming inner roads, and delightful hairpin bends that we motorcycle enthusiasts yearn for!
