BHPian nutcracker recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Finally, after being a regular poster, to a long time regular lurker, I have a reason to post something People who know me here know well enough about my much loved VW Polo, Vento and Pajero, all beauties, cut short of their lifetime by Delhi’s pathetic 10 year diesel rule.Bought these cars in 2014, sold them in 2024. So in the family, we need to replace them with 3 cars. Last year, we bought the Harrier AT. Two more to go.It is now time for the second, and I have shortlisted two options: Volkswagen Virtus GT Chrome Plus 1.5 AT, and the Citroen Basalt X 1.2 Turbo AT.My thoughts on the Virtus:Loved the TD. Pulls and turns like a dream. Great dynamics. Invites you to overtake. I miss sedans. This whole trend of mini-SUVs bothers me a lot, as I find them rather ugly.Since I spend hours in the car, a good music system is a must. The Virtus has that going for it.Not a fan of the touch controls. Not a fan of the black interiors. Somehow I absolutely hate the black interior trend. It makes cars feel more cramped.Exterior looks are classy and timeless.Since I have experience with VW, am confident I won’t be letMy thoughts on the Basalt XAlso drives well, thought not as good as the Virtus.Size is perfect for places like Old Delhi. Team Small Car!Music system did not impress.Interior color scheme is better than the Virtus.Physical AC controls.Less features in the interior than the Virtus. Is 4L cheaper than the Virtus.Smaller engine, so better economy (?)I just can’t decide between the two. Both have totally mutually exclusive things going for/against them. I need some expert insights on this: mechanical, engine, etc. I’m planning to get the car home before Diwali this year. Here’s what BHPian Alienboy added to the discussion:If budget isn’t a concern, just go ahead and buy the Virtus with your eyes closed. It’s a car that brings genuine joy throughout the ownership experience. The 1.5 TSI paired with the DSG is an absolute gem of a combination. Over the long run, the Virtus delivers a far deeper sense of satisfaction compared to Basalt X.Meanwhile, BHPian doomketu said this regarding the matter:I never thought someone in this forum would be torn between a Virtus , GT no less , and a Basalt. Virtus is a looker , a performer and a money pit. But the joy itnwill bring to your life is unrivalled. Having test driven one (1.0 GT) I absolutely love it. I love the looks as it looks so sleek.Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
