Hyundai’s performance sub-brand has stated its intent to go GT3 racing with the low-slung, mid-engined coupe.

Genesis has unveiled a new mid-engined Magma GT Concept that heralds the Korean brand’s future intent as a genuine player in the performance car market.

Designed to showcase the manufacturer’s Magma performance sub-brand, the Magma GT Concept, a low-slung, mid-engined coupe with gullwing doors, is likely to form the basis of a production car ahead of the brand’s expanding motorsport ambitions.

“It is the brand’s clearest expression yet of its commitment to its future high-performance capabilities,” read a statement from Genesis.

According to Genesis, the Magma GT Concept will serve as the brand’s “halo car” while also spearheading the Magma’s motorsport expansion plans with a future GT3 racing program also confirmed at the reveal in France overnight.

Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, said, “The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability.

It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed – it is defined by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless.”

While technical details remain slim, the Magma GT Concept made a grand entrance at the Paul Ricard circuit in France this week with a distinctive V8 rumble.

A GT racing program would require Genesis to build petrol-powered road-going versions of its intended race car.

It’s not the first time Genesis has revealed a V8-powered coupe concept, with the X Gran Berlinetta unveiled last year at Genesis Magma Racing’s (GMR) launch, the endurance racing program that will see the Korean luxury brand take on the likes of Ferrari, Porsche and BMW in the hypercar category at the Le Mans 24 Hour from next year.

The V8-powered hybrid GMR001 hypercar has already started testing in preparation for its entry into the World Endurance Championship in 2026, recently completing a 30-hour run endurance test in Aragon, Spain.
