The Jetour line-up in Malaysia looks set to gain new models following the sighting of a T1 in Bandar Baru Bangi by paultan.org reader Adam Azmanhazim. The T1 is one of a few Jetour models earmarked for our market, along with the T2 that was recently previewed in right-hand drive form at the Auto Car Expo (ACE) earlier this month – the VT9 and Dashing have already been launched.
Measuring in at 4,706 mm long, 1,967 mm wide, 1,845 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm, the T1 is slightly smaller overall when compared to the T2. Like its stablemate, the T1 features a boxy, upright body, although it isn’t as rugged in appearance and has a more “SUV look” to it.
A conventional upswinging tailgate instead of one that opens sideways, along with the designs of the front and rear ends, including the lighting units, are just some of the differences between the two. Both have utilitarian-looking interiors with a large central infotainment touchscreen and an integrated digital instrument cluster.
In China, the T1 is offered with either a 1.5 or 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine. The former is rated at 184 PS (181 hp or 135 kW) and 290 Nm of torque, with drive going to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Meanwhile, the 2.0 litre unit churns out 254 PS (251 hp or 187 kW) and 390 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Pricing for the T1 in its home market starts at 124,900 yuan (about RM73k) and peaks at 154,900 yuan (RM90k).
The T2 set to go on sale in Malaysia with an estimated price of RM178,888 gets the same 2.0 litre engine as the T1, albeit paired with a 7DCT and AWD. We should point out that in China, the T2’s starting price of 139,900 yuan (RM82k) is higher than the T1, and this could be the same here as well.
