BHPian mpksuhas recently shared this with other enthusiasts: 19 Oct / Sunday – Trivandrum to Calicut For the journey towards Calicut, decided to take Trivandrum – Konni – Ranni – Ponkunnam -Pala – Muvattupuza – Kalady – Angamaly – Thrissur (deviation from earlier plan to take Irinjalakuda – Chavakkad – Ponnai route) – Kunnamkulam byepass – Edappal – Kuttipuram – Calicut route. Started at 6.38 AM from the place of stay near East Fort. Made a half-hour stop near Kazahakuttam to meet a friend. Started from Kazahakuttam at 7.25 AM. It was raining heavily till around Pathnamapuram. Roads from here to Muvatupuzha were beautiful. Stopped at Hotel Aarya Bhavan just past Ranni town for breakfast between 9.30 AM & 10.00 AM. The place is okay, nothing great as such. However, didn’t find any much options around this section. Reached Pala at 11.00 AM and Muvatupuzha at 11.50 AM. Took a break of roughly 4 hours, meeting a friend at Muvatupuzha, and started from here at 3.50 PM. Traffic around Kaladay and Angamaly was bad, though road conditions-wise it was okay. Stopped at IOCL COCO at Koratty for 10 mins at 5.00 PM. Traffic around Koratty, Pota, was bad due to ongoing underpass work. My initial plan was to take a left from Potta and head to Irinjalakuda and join NH66 further. However, due to the traffic diversions & blocks, I missed the exit at Potta. Decided to continue via Thrissur anyways. Crossing Thrissur was a pain due to road work around Punkunnam. Maps diverted us through the road in front of the Hyatt hotel, which did negate the pain a bit. From around Amala Hospital, road work is partially done and not a big pain. Kunnamkulam has a bypass of sort now with a new, beautiful road. Past that, Changaramkulam & Edappal were the usual. We got onto NH66 at Kuttipuram. This section of NH66 from the north side of Calicut byepass, is done. It was a pleasure to drive on the new road. Took close to one hour only from here to Malaparamb in Calicut. Reached Calicut around 8.35 PM Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
