Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) will introduce another SUV in addition to the GLC200 4Matic it teased last week. Coming our way is the GLE400e 4Matic with EQ Hybrid Technology, which is the plug-in hybrid version of the fourth-generation (V167) GLE facelift.
The new variant will join the local GLE line-up that currently has the locally-assembled (CKD) GLE450 4Matic and fully-imported Mercedes-AMG GLE63S 4Matic+, with the former retailing for RM544,888 on-the-road without insurance.
The GLE400e features a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine that serves up 252 PS (248 hp or 185 kW) and 400 Nm on its own. Augmented by an electric motor rated at 136 PS (134 hp or 100 kW) and 440 Nm, the total system output 381 PS (375 hp or 280 kW) and 600 Nm. Paired with the engine is a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
A 31-kWh lithium-ion battery provides up to 108 km of electric-only range following the WLTP standard, with AC charging at up to 11 kW able to replenish the battery (10-100%) in 2.5 hours. There’s also DC fast charging capped at 60 kW that gets the battery from a 10-80% state of charge in 29 minutes.
Like the current GLE450 4Matic on sale, the upcoming GLE400e 4Matic looks to come with the AMG Line styling package, as suggested by the image in the teaser. MBM says the new GLE variant is “coming soon,” so it shouldn’t be too long till an official launch takes place.
