Living in modern America, it’s a horrifying scenario we hesitantly drill for in schools and other third places. And it’s been a tragic reality far too many of us have experienced. Last month, an armed man showed up outside CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan. Deacon Richard Pryor was running late to the service when he noticed the threat unfolding. Without a weapon on hand, Pryor used his Ford F-150 to stop the attacker, who was firing outside the church.
The deacon’s F-150 took multiple bullets during the encounter
Police say the attacker, Robert Browning, was wearing a tactical vest and armed with several weapons. After Pryor stopped the gunman with his truck, a church security guard fatally shot the attacker. No one else suffered life-threatening injuries, ABC News shared.
A few weeks after the incident, a local Ford dealership showed its appreciation
The dealership gave Pryor a new F-150 to replace the one damaged during the event.
Pryor said he felt nervous but grateful for the support he’s received since that day. He explained that he realized there wasn’t time to wait for help, and without a weapon, his F-150 seemed the only option.
Police and church officials praised the quick actions of Pryor and the security team for preventing what could have been a much worse tragedy. Authorities also noted that Browning had no criminal history but appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis.
