BHPian die2ride recently shared this with other enthusiasts:A Bitter First EncounterMy Virtus journey didn’t exactly start on a high note. Back in early 2024, I walked into Volkswagen Davangere eager to check out the Virtus. Unfortunately, there was no test-drive vehicle available – just a Taigun in manual. Still, I spent time looking at the Virtus in the flesh and liked what I saw. Curious about offers, I asked the sales rep. He called his manager at VW Hubli, and that’s when the shocker came: “Sir, you cannot afford a Volkswagen.” That line hit me harder than a pothole at 80 km/h. I got back home thinking 100 times about whether I should consider buying a VW. For reference – I wasn’t exactly walking. I owned a 2013 Swift ZDi (1.8 lakh km, still running like a champ) and a 2010 Honda City V (95k km, still flawless). Both were utterly reliable – never left me stranded. But with an itch to upgrade and a baby on the way, the timing was right to look for something new.The BookingAfter reading multiple ownership threads on Team-BHP and watching reviews, the Virtus slowly crept back into my mind. I decided to visit PPS VW Tumkur and the experience was the polar opposite of my earlier encounter. They offered: 1 lakh cash discount Free accessories Insurance discount That sealed it. On Feb 10th, 2024, I booked my Candy White Highline AT. By Feb 14th (yes, Valentine’s Day), I was driving it home. I paid 27k for the number, the same one I have on my Swift and City. The Not-So-Perfect Bits Headlights: The Highline variant’s dual-LED setup (separate low/high) is, frankly, terrible. Boot spring issue: Minor but annoying. Driver window auto-up/down: Works… sometimes. Mileage in the city: No matter how I drive, I can’t cross 6.5 km/l. Fog light upgrade: Helped a little, but still not ideal in rain. And now, the parts that make me smile every time I drive: Highway efficiency: On cruise control at 100 km/h, it delivers >15km/l effortlessly. On single-lane roads, around 12 km/l. Drive feel: That rock-solid VW stability at speed is addictive. Service experience: Even though Davangere has a VW workshop, I’ve done all 3 services at PPS Tumkur (who also run Kia). They service VW cars at their Kia workshop on Sundays! Service cost: First-year / 10,000 km service was just 6k – pretty reasonable. Niggle-free: No breakdowns, no major issues so far.Epilogue From being told I “can’t afford a Volkswagen” to happily owning one, this Virtus journey has been full of twists. Yes, it has its quirks, but the driving experience have made it worth it. ________________________________________Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
