BHPian dkaile recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Exterior LED Bulb UpgradesFirst to be tackled was the Front Position Light (Parking) Bulb – It was a Koito (Made in Japan) W5W – The Front Turn Signal Light (Indicator) Bulb was also a Koito Japan 12V 21W PY21W one – Notice that it has offset pins – The stock light – Initially I replaced it with Osram’s T10’s – Here is the polarity and wire colors of this bulb’s holder. Please note that a white wire with a black strip is the most common Ground (-) wire in this Toyota – Stock Light – Replaced with Osram LED’s. Now perfectly matches the White LED Headlights and doesn’t look out of place – Another View of the Stock setup – Vs the LED’s – I subsequently further changed the Osram’s to Blaupunkt’s T10 PRO because (as already proven) of their double brightness. Comparison of the Osrams – Vs the Blaupunkt T10 PRO – A comparative picture of the Osram (on the left) Vs the Blaupunkt (on the right). However this photo does NOT do justice to what we actually see in brightness due to the light conditions and photo angle – A close up of the Blaupunkt’s. It is actually twice as bright – Now it was time for the License Plate Lights – Though these are easily changeable from the outside itself, I wanted to check for wires inside for the Rear (Boot) Tail Light Upgrade. Hence I decided to Remove the Boot Plastic Cover to explore further. Though I started from the base where you can see the orange trim removal tool, one should start from the top plastic trim highlighted by the red arrow for easier access – The plastic cover is just held by the white plastic locks which need to be caressed out of their slots – Remember to remove any locks stuck in their slots and attach it back to the plastic cover for easier re-installation back to it’s original position – Here are all the 4 pieces of the plastic trim removed from the Boot with their plastic locks attached back to their original position – Here is the Boot Door laid bare. After installing the Powered Sub-Woofer in the boot (details to follow of the complete wiring/installation process), I felt the need to install some sound dampening material, which I will subsequently do in the places highlighted by the arrows. There is never any need to go overboard with dampening, which I have already discussed in my speaker upgrade thread mentioned in my opening post – I found some wires which could power the Boot Parking Light – I tested them for power with my multimeter – But was disappointed to note that they were NOT the ones I was looking for and hence could not be used – So it was decided to eventually go with wire taps, which was a 5 minute job. And this was 1 of the 3 wires that were eventually tapped – Rear License Plate (+) wire to power the Rear (Boot) Parking Light Upgrade – Here’s how you can complete detach the Rear License Plate Light from it’s groove – The License Plate Light dissected (Made by Lumax, India) – Which contained the Lumax (Made in India) W5W bulb – This was replaced by the (abundant and sufficient) Osram’s T10’s I had in stock, as this was not a area which needed extra brightness – These 2 tabs needed to be pressed to slot the light out of it’s groove, marked by red arrows – MUCH MUCH more to follow. Cheers…Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
