It isn’t easy to knock anything in the market, as car-building standards are excellent (in most parts), so reasons for slow turnover can range from subjective factors to a plain lack of interest. It could be a brand’s marketing initiatives for valid reasons, or it could be the result of affordability comparisons in the segment. The list goes on.

Regardless, no brand wants to be lurking in any “slowest selling category“, but what needs to be stressed is that being the slowest does not mean it is a bad car. You with me? We pulled data from our friends at Car Edge, which analyzes listing data across the country. From German luxury coupes to American SUVs, some seriously awesome cars fill these slots. Some you may find surprising — others, there will be no surprises.

Market Day Supply represents “the number of days required to sell all vehicles in inventory, based on the vehicle’s daily selling rate. Total For Sale is the total number of active listings for similar year, make, trim vehicles. Lastly, Total Sold represents the number of active listings for similar year, make, trim vehicles that have sold over the past 45 days. Models are listed in ascending order, from the least Markey Day Supply to the most.

Mini Hard-Top 2-Door

Dynamite No One’s Buying (Too Fast)

It’s no secret that the market has always preferred bigger cars, four doors, and space to pack enough luggage. It’s been like that since day one, and while other markets, like Europe, see coupes and, specifically, hatchback two-door coupes do well, the two-door Mini Cooper has always been a hard sell Stateside.

The car is tiny, only fitted with three doors, and while I can sort of fit back there, the sheer idea of having to get my rather tall two-year-old to properly strap himself inside his seat did not feel fun.

That said, they also appeal to a more sporty driver—and that breed is slowly dying. The two-door does, however, pack that ethos of the original Mini Cooper, but nostalgia and heritage alone don’t sell cars, and there is no surprise why the two-door Mini Countryman outsells it month on month.

Jeep Compass

Rugged, But Needing More Direction

Stiff competition — there’s just so much to choose from in the hotly contested compact SUV segment that the Jeep Compass, and, depending on your desired ratio of off-roading to suburbia/city living, there are more refined options that exist out there. Still, there’s an air to owning a Jeep that warrants a respectable amount of rugged street cred, or, well, trail cred.

When you have options like Honda‘s CR-X, which is just so good, it’s challenging to contend with when making buying decisions in the market. And then there’s the 2026 Jeep Compass on the cards, but it won’t reach the US market too soon, thanks to tariffs. It’s easy to see why there’s a little more direction needed everywhere.

Mercedes-Benz SL

Stuttgart’s Oldest

It’s the oldest badge in the Mercedes stable and something the German automaker will not bin anytime soon, given its rich heritage and how it has served the brand so diligently over the years. Given Mercedes-Benz’s appetite to just release a convertible on just about everything, and coupled with all cars getting bigger, there’s not too much size differential between, say, a Mercedes-AMG Roadster and the SL-Class.

There are more options out there that come in the threat of competitors, too, but when you look at the asking price of the SL, you start getting a better picture as to why it’s so slow to sell. It is a pity, though, that this is arguably the slickest version of modern times.

Nissa Versa Sedan

End Of The Road

The list of new cars under $20,000 is slimming down these days, with Nissan’s Versa Sedan on that list and providing as basic an offering as you’ll find anywhere. But what happens if basic isn’t what everyone wants, and that for a little more, you could get, in return, SO much more?

Well, that and the fact that Nissan is culling the Versa at the end of 2025, and who’s going to be buying something that could have parts supply and other issues after that?

Ford Mustang

Power To The People

For the world’s best-selling coupe sports car to be featured on a slow-selling list, this may be a difficult one for the motoring community to wrap their head around, but Ford’s Mustang slow sales have been part of a growing trend over the last few years. The reason? Well, simple “Cost” ranks high.

For a car that has always been the “working man’s” sports car, any price variation is going to have a much greater impact than, say, in a premium segment. It’s just a more sensitive game and one that is currently hurting the Mustang. It is a pity, though, as power should belong to the people.

Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is one of those hidden premium gems in the market, while tried-and-tested names from BMW, Lexus, and Lincoln tend to woo buyers. Even though, in the not-too-distant future, the XC90 will be produced at Volvo’s plant in South Carolina as it shares a platform with the XC60, the immediate effect of tariffs, which have pushed prices up, can’t be ignored.

Expect that, as time goes on, buyers will latch on more to the value of the Volvo brand and buy into it. They are, lest we forget, renowned for their safety innovations, as well as that sweet, sweet Scandinavian minimalism that attracts buyers in 2025.

Audi A6

Looks Slippery But Sits Still

The days of the luxury sedan are numbered, and Audi’s A6 could be just one of the unfortunate badges to succumb to that fate. Compared to the Toyota Camry, which has a market-day supply of just 34 days, this indicates how low demand is for the A6 with 224 days, and in many cases, it’s not the worst thing for Audi, but something, I bet, there are eyes on as the brand tries to reposition itself.

As to how much longer the A6 will be around, even with a new version and big changes in the offering going on, we don’t know, but what we do know is that the version certainly looks the part (and needs to). And I don’t care what anyone says, but these bigger versions are cool.

Audi A4

Dead Man Walking

Another sedan from the four-ring stable that has given the car community so much. OK, perhaps in modern times, its star has been burning out. Audi A4 popularity has seen a dip in sales over recent years, due to reliability issues that have crept in, and a host of other issues.

Then there’s the continued success of fellow German automakers in the three-way battle that has seen the A4 somewhat lag behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz. But with stock lying about and concerns aside, is there still value and fun to be had?

Maserati Grecale

Late To The Party

It’s no secret that every brand needs an SUV in its lineup to supplement sales and keep the accountants happy. Maserati’s Grecale comes at a time when firmly rooted competitors have, in most cases, secured a piece of the market pie and are holding onto it—the same piece of pie that Maserati’s Grecale is contending. So is the Grecale a little late to the party?

It is a true Italian thoroughbred and nothing short of a soulful masterpiece.

It’s a pity, though, as every seemingly self-loathing car enthusiast would love to own a Maserati, even in SUV guise. It’s just something that rolls off the tongue easily when asked what car you drive. Maybe that’s part of the problem.

Jaguar F-PACE

From England, With Love

Car Buzz

I’m divided on this one, but having an F-PACE with SVR badging is the type of ridiculousness we sign up for as car people. Loud and obnoxious with utility underpinnings. Its function, form, and noise. What’s not to like?

A V8-powered F-Pace SVR is indeed a ton of fun, and while not as snarly, the turbocharged straight-six option still offers class-competitive performance.

Rear 3/4 shot of 2025 Jaguar F-PACE SVR in green parked in parking lot
Car Buzz

Before you answer that, let’s acknowledge that it’s a pity these aren’t as popular as they should be. High depreciation costs and a recent rebranding have seemingly alienated its current customer base and may have scared off new buyers. The list goes on. The F-Pace (in SVR guise) is, however, cool. Very cool.
