BHPian rahul1407 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Hi Folks, We currently own a Nexon EV Max 2.0, which we bought in March 2023. The car has barely covered 16000 kilometers. It belongs to my wife and is mainly used for her office commutes, city drives, and my kid’s school runs. Due to our WFH/Hybrid work model, we don’t get to use the car very often, but still find it economical. Despite the frugal ownership, we are not happy with the car. The issue is that whenever my son sits in the front passenger seat with me driving, my wife has to sit in the back. Because of the firm suspension on the Nexon EV, caused by the short wheelbase and the dead weight in the center, rear passengers experience a very bumpy and unsettled ride. My wife especially starts feeling sick within a kilometer of driving out of our society, which has many broken roads. This has become so prominent that she avoids using her own car. This problem has become serious enough that we are now considering replacing the Nexon with a better EV that has a more comfortable suspension and additional features. We have never owned a car with a sunroof, so opening the shade let a lot of air into the cabin, which made my son very happy. We don’t plan to open the glass pane often, but having some fresh air occasionally, especially on hilly terrain, would be advantageous. The size (4455mm) is larger but manageable. The car has a 360-degree camera and an ‘invisible mode’ that shows underneath the car, which was really good. However, spending 25L for a 50kW-capacity car, lower fast charging speeds compared to current standards, a subpar music system, a limited service network, no spare tire, no frunk, and being a Chinese brand are some major disadvantages. In the case of the XEV9e, the pack 2 59kW comes within our budget. However, the lack of a 360-degree camera on such a large car is a deal breaker for us and especially for my wife. I assume the 59kW battery may not provide more than 350 km of range (similar to the Atto 3), and we don’t want a fixed glass pane roof that adds weight without offering benefits to have fresh outside air on a good day. I also find the three screens to be a drawback, as my child might fiddle with them, leading to unnecessary screen time. Also, the outer design is somewhat tacky for my taste, and I can’t reconcile with it. Despite knowing that the XEV9e will have the most advanced tech inside and outside among all options, I just can’t find enough reasons to like it. Regarding the Harrier, the rear seat was too upright, and despite being a well-tamed vehicle, I could still feel that Tata-like jerkiness, which doesn’t seem helpful for nauseous travellers. Additionally, the car has some quality gaps and shares parts with the Nexon, which doesn’t look good in a 25L rupee vehicle. Since my wife will be the primary user, I feel the size could be a disadvantage in our situation. Considering these points, my heart leans toward the Atto 3, but my mind says no. Do you think it is a good choice to make in 2025? Suggestions are welcome. On a wild thought, given the global economic situation with India, Russia, and China trying to form alliances against Trump, could India finally allow BYD to enter a joint venture, potentially reducing the cost of their cars in India?
