Opinions. Everyone has them, and they’re all subjective. But sometimes the opinions come from industry professionals, like mechanics. And these pro-wrenchers have a mostly shared opinion about which cars and their drivers are the most likely to cut them off in traffic.
Most of these mechanics agree that Nissan drivers are the most likely to ‘cut you off’ in traffic
The mechanics at Genuine Automotive in Austin, Texas, like most other seasoned techs, have their opinions. And when asked about bad drivers and their cars of choice, many of their answers had a common element.
“You know them Nissan boys,” one mechanic responded when asked which cars are the “most likely to cut you off on the freeway.” Another mechanic, Bailey, had a very similar response. “Nissan Altima. Or Hellcats.” Quite the automotive dichotomy there.
Finally, another mechanic named Seth drove yet another nail into the Nissan coffin. “Altimas. Nissan Altima,” he responded without a moment’s hesitation. Sensing a pattern here?
The data backs things up. Kind of
These mechanics may have had strong opinions about Nissans, but data from CarAccidentAttorney.com isn’t far off. The Nissan Maxima, not the Altima, was the No. 2 most accident-prone car in America, just behind the Ford Fusion.
The Altima wasn’t far behind, taking the No. 4 spot. Up to 3.61% Altimas sold between 2016 and 2020 got into wrecks, just 0.06% behind the infamous Ford Mustang. Lending Tree, on the other hand, found that Tesla drivers were the worst as of 2024, followed by RAM and Subaru.
The mechanics aren’t alone– a handful of viewers agree
A dip into the comment section confirms that many drivers agree with the mechanics’ opinions. “The first guy said it before I got it out. Damn Nissan,” one viewer responded. “Altima with bubbling window tint and faded paint,” another TikTok user commented.
“As a Nissan Altima driver, I agree,” another commenter responded. Might we suggest a driving school?
But not everyone
Other viewers piled on BMW owners. “Surprised no one said BMWs,” a driver with an SN-95 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra as a profile image posted. Another commenter added, “It’s always a BMW.”
Of course, BMW wasn’t the only one in the hot seat. “Nah, it’s little guys in big trucks in my experience,” one viewer responded. “As a Dodge RAM owner, I will say it’s us,” a truck driver admitted. You have to admire the self-awareness.
